Nikka operates two Coffey stills within the Miyagikyo distillery, for the elaboration of its grain whiskies. Imported from Scotland in 1963, these old stills yield a distillate with more flavour and depth than modern column stills, imparting a distinct character that defines the house blends.  Invented by Mr Aeneas Coffey in 1830, the Coffey Still is the world’s first patented continuous still. Masataka Taketsuru valued the feature of this type of still, which retains the flavors of ingredients and also creates a distinctive texture. Using the two Coffey stills at the Miyagikyo distillery, Nikka has produced a number of single cask single grain whiskies from time to time over the years.  In particular, the Nikka Coffey Grain is one of Nikka’s signature grain whiskies which show the beauty of its Coffey Stills.

Nikka Coffey Grain is predominantly made from corn and distilled in a Coffey Still. The complex, sweet and mellow flavors of this expression will help you re-discover the beauty of a grain whisky. On the palate, the Nikka Coffey malt whisky offers sweet, fruity flavours of melon, grapefruit and thick syrup, balanced by crunchy biscuits and notes of vanilla. On the nose, it has bourbon-like vanilla and corn notes with a herbal hint of chamomile.
